7. Crushed Beaks
Now two things are apparent this week. One Crushed Beaks is a terrible name for a band. And Two, A Beak is not a member of the Animal Kingdom – its part of a creature. So we are barrel scraping here.
Anyway, Crushed Beaks are a London based noise pop duo and are relative newcomers to the music world. They have yet to release an album – but they have released three very fine EPs. The best being their most recent one ‘Tropes’. See for yourself.
But are crushed beaks more important to us than actual crushed beaks Lets look at the evidence.
The beak, bill or rostrum (that is a terrific word, rostrum) is used by the bird for eating and for grooming. They are also used for manipulating objects, killing prey, fighting, looking for food, feeding young and in mating (stop tittering at the back). They vary in size, colour, shape and texture but all look the same fundamentally an upper and lower bit with two holes to breath out of.
So on the look of it I would say that a beak is fairly vital to the existence of a bird. Should its beak get crushed, they would be fairly screwed as would any youngsters around. So I am swaying towards a vital victory for the Bands here. However…
Crushed Beaks the band, also vary in shape, size and colour (one is slightly paler than the other) but fundamentally look like they could be in any band, bank or shoe shop in the world. They make a tuneful racket and haven’t been known to kill prey as yet and don’t use nose/mouth combination to look for food on the ground.
So…the band have it. Based to be honest on the fact that I quite like the song I have attached and I don’t like Seagulls and they have beaks. I sure you will agree that my unbiased, inpartial, open minded view is being rigorously enforced this week.
