World In Your Eyes – Depeche Mode
I’ll admit something here, I don’t really like Depeche Mode – they are one of those bands that I don’t quite get. Agreed they have made some cracking records, but I’ve never managed to sit through an entire album of theirs. The last one I tried was ‘Ultra’ and I got about half way through. Maybe its time to retry.
This was a free CD that showcased what Q Magazine had decided that week were the most essential moments in Dance music. By Dance music they largely mean ‘indie music using keyboards, and Fatboy Slim’. I mean this album has U2 on it, a band that are to dance music, what am I to the Saudi royal Family. Nowhere near it. However much you remix them and stick ‘breakbeats’ (or whatever you want to call them) over their records, its still U2.
There are other glaring errors.
Alabama 3 with no disrespect intended, have not, and never will, make a record that can be considered anywhere near essential, and well the less said about the Stereo MCs the better really.
I have included a couple of records that are, I think, pretty good, and are pretty much essential dance music tracks. They are by 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald.
